Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky supports effort to explore treatment options for opioid use disorder

The opioid epidemic is a devastating crisis that has affected many individuals, families, and communities in Kentucky. The Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky (FHKY) knows that addressing opioid use disorder (OUD) is closely connected to improving the health of our state. That is why FHKY applauds the move by Bryan Hubbard and the Kentucky Opioid Abatement Advisory Commission to investigate new therapeutic treatment options for those affected by OUD.

“We support innovative and data-driven methods to solve health problems,” said Ben Chandler, president and CEO, Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky. “This move to explore new treatments to reverse the chemical effects of opioid addiction, including opioid withdrawal, could be the key to unlock successful recovery and better long-term health for many Kentuckians.”

Opioid addiction takes a toll on both physical and mental health, on top of the risk of overdose. Individuals struggling with addiction often experience depression, anxiety, and mood disorders. Opioid addiction can also disrupt social and familial relationships, which can lead to an overall deterioration in someone’s quality of life, further exacerbating the health consequences they face.

FHKY is hopeful for the success of this new initiative and the health benefits it may bring to Kentucky.
