Physicians have long understood the critical role social determinants of health – including social, economic and environmental factors - play in a person’s chances for a long and healthy life. That’s why the American Medical Association has made influencing determinants of health a cornerstone of its commitment to advancing health equity and improving health outcomes for children and families from historically marginalized communities. AMA Board member Dr. Alexander Ding, a board-certified diagnostic and interventional radiologist in Kentucky and Jennifer Brown, Esq., Director of Health Equity, Advocacy Group, AMA will highlight how the AMA is seeking to address determinants of health through strategic investments, partnerships and advocacy, reverse the troubling rise in maternal mortality in the U.S., and share important lessons learned and what they mean for people and communities in the Commonwealth.
