Health for a Change: LGBTQ Literacy in Health Advocacy

An estimated 1.4 million transgender adults living in the United States and an additional 140,000 transgender youth ages 13 to 17. With greater societal awareness and acceptance, many people who have otherwise remained closeted have come out as transgender in the past several years. Transgender people face a different set of issues when seeking health care. Join us for this free one-hour webinar as we pass the microphone to transgender and nonbinary Kentuckians to learn how organizations and individuals can support and better advocate for trans people. The webinar will also explore the efforts to ban conversion therapy in Kentucky and the significant impact such therapy has on the mental health of queer and trans youth.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Learn about efforts to ban conversion therapy for minors and vulnerable adults in Kentucky.

  2. Gain an understanding of the barriers to care for transgender Kentuckians.

  3. Learn new skills in navigating sometimes challenging conversations about gender and how to be a better advocate for transgender Kentuckians.

Presenters:
